This one of a kind vineyard with excellent managed canopy was design with our intention to establish a Winery Retail Store.
 
If you are not interested in investing into a winery or as a commercial vineyard, it could be use as a retreat, a get away from the everyday busy activities. This is a perfect place for a get away for the weekend to rest or to share quality time with family and friend. It is adequate for home base employment.  

Our Homestead:
Our homestead is surround by beautiful landscape.  Evenly divided landscapes of forest, vineyard, and open area. A lovely brook runs through our property.
We offer a modest two bedrooms one level bungalow, approx. 1300 sq/ft. The electrical system has been upgraded. Heating is a combination of electric baseboard, force air electric heaters, and a wood stove in the leaving room. A wood shed is use to store firewood, which can store up to 12 cords.
A patio door in the bedroom gives access to a 9 x 13 ft deck, perfect view of the summer sunrise over the vineyard. From the living room, a patio door gives access to a large patio great for entertaining families and friends. A large open grass lot surrounds the homestead, far away from the main road, great for children and pets. Three large flowerbeds are located adjacent to the house. There is plenty of room for a vegetable garden near by. 
A sixty-foot tower gives access to High-speed DSL Internet from a local ISP.  For residential and commercial uses, a telephone cable is available with 8 individual lines.

Farmstead: Two modest sheds are used as workshop, machinery and equipment storage.
Cold climate vines varieties were chosen.

FRONTENAC:  (Red) A vigorous, extremely winter-hardy to -30 deg. F (ca -35 C.), heavy producing and disease resistant V. Riperia 89 x Landot 4511 (Noir) french/american hybrid variety released by the U. Minnesota Research Institute for upper midwest USA conditions in 1995.

SABREVOIS: (Red) A 1978 variety selection by Elmer Swenson currently (2001) popular and extensively grown in Quebec, where it has proved to be cold hardy down to -31 deg. F (-35 C). Claimed to be disease free and much hardier than Marechal Foch or St. Croix.

LOUISE SWENSON: (White) Developed by Elmer Swenson in 1980 and released around 1994 this harsh-cold (to -40 deg. F.) tolerant variety is a cross between ES 2-3-17 and Kay Gray. Recent reports indicate some sensitivity to drought conditions, indicating a need for irrigation in dry years. Disease resistant, other than susceptibility to easily controlled anthracnose, the fruit ripens around mid-season with a long hang time, rarely exceeding 20 brix sugar content

VANDAL-CLICHE: A popular name for the promising Cliche 8414 variety derived from a Vandal 64 x Vandal 163 1984 cross by a private breeder resident in Quebec, Canada. It is a cold-climate hardy cultivar whose fruit has been used to successfully create a white wine and is currently (1999) undergoing field trial in Upper Canada.

The vines have not yet reach full maturity.  There is now approx. 2000 Frontenac, 850 Sabrevois, 490 Louise Swenson and approx. 500 Vandal-Clich.
These varieties have proven to give excellent wine. Compliment had been in abundances.

In the fall of 2005, we invested in a draining system to improve the soil condition. Cleaning and widening the brook that goes through our property was also done.
The service of an agronomist was use as a consultant and to oversee the implementation of various treatments to improve plant growth, weed control and pest control.

Winery Retail Store – for those interested
This vineyard is ready to further expand into a Winery Retail Store. Since the deregulation in the Ontario wine industry, new objective by the LCBO was implemented. A minimum of 5 acres or 5000 vines is only required to fulfill this objective.  This is great business investment for anyone interested to venture in the wine industry. Our vineyard is in a perfect location, tourist industry of the 1000 Island region.

If you decide to be a producer, a guaranteed income is obtainable. Although the wine industry is at it enfant stage in the Eastern part of Ontario, there are prospective buyers for our grapes.
